Information and Communication Technology in the 21st Century Nigeria(ICT)

June 23,2012
Perhaps the sector that has witnessed the greatest expansion and development in the 21st Century is the Information and Communication sector. The Telecommunication industry, the mass media-Television, Radio and associated gadgets, the Internet and the Computer revolution and any gadget connected with the generation, developing, transmission, storing, processing and retrieval of information constitute the ICT sector. ICT represent a cluster of associated technologies defined by their functional usage in information generation and distribution.

Before now the discourse around the world focuses on ‘’Industrial Revolution’’, but today it is common place to hear ‘’Communication Revolution’’ taking more attention without necessarily jeopardising the pace of world industrial growth .It has rather become the baseline for any sustainable growth in the World leading industries. In fact it is becoming a compulsory requirement to be ICT compliance to gain a meaningful employment in most sectors in Nigeria at the moment.

The ICT sector is the fastest and most robust sector in the Nigerian economy. It contributed over 8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2010.Currently it is expected to provide over $16.5 billion dollars of the total Gross Domestic Product in the 2015. The sector is exceptional and is forecast to have a continued growth with a population of over 150 million users.
The sector provides jobs for the Nigeria teeming population and could be said to compete with the hitherto largest provider of employment in Nigeria, the Agricultural sector.
The Educational implication of ICT advancement has really brought about a breakthrough such that the constrains of the past in sourcing for educational materials for research projects in the various areas of human endeavour is now a thing of the past.
ICT has come to make life easy though it has its negative side effects. By comparison the positive impact far out weight the contrary. So this development in ICT has come to stay. Can you imagine a world without computers and other gadgets like cell phones?

June 21,2012
Steve Nosakhare is a man with many parts with different trainings in ICT, Education, Business Administration, Economics and Marketing, with exposure both in Nigeria and overseas. His guiding philosophy is coined from the words of Zig Ziglar ‘’ You can get whatever you want in Life, if you just help enough people get what they want.’’ His darkest moment of life is when he leaves anyone that come across him unhappy if it is within his power and means to do otherwise. He therefore strives within every available resources at his disposal with the help of God to put smiles on faces, give hope to the hopeless and help many realise their dream .Though this sometimes can be an uphill task to achieve but he however believe that whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well.

About Global Technology Archive

June 21,2012
The Bedrock for the advancement of any nation hinges on the attention or premium given to Information and Communication Technology. This represents the hub around which every facet of human endeavours to achieve a virile economy revolves. However no matter how good this may sound, the absence of a library simplified to the extent that every ‘’Dick and Harry’’ can access, understand and applied will make this goal far-fetched.

We hear now and then about the Millennium goal of our nation and the entire globe with Information and Communication Technology defined as the baseline; the need to create a Technological archive that will treat or give an incisive insight to the World of Information and Communication Technology and make it available by creating an unbiased awareness campaign that will foster the realisation of this vision led to the Birth of This Site.

This Site will be useful to students, National Leaders, Policies makers, Technicians, Engineers, Artisans, Agriculturists, ICT Experts and for the general reading interest of the public. With the foregoing as the driving force, every means available will be used to disseminate this information. This Archive will be updated continuously with latest development and gradually build into a World class Information and Communication Technology Library.

Hope you find the time spent here revealing, interesting and fulfilling.
