The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is the agency responsible for the registration of Business names, corporate organisations and Incorporated Trustees. This businesses and Bodies are grouped into three namely:
A. Public Limited Companies ( PLC)
Private Limited Companies (LTD)
Unlimited Companies (UNLTD)
Companies Limited by Guarantee (LBG)
B. Business Name
C. Incorporated Trustee
Each group has its own requirements and fees for registration.
The good news today is that you can now register your business online unlike the hazels of the past when you need to make several journeys with its attendant risk and at the end ,the whole process may be delayed and messed up. They’ve introduced e-payment system, check availability of intended business name, your business status in terms of the registration process and other businesses that you may want to confirm their registration status and existence.
If you however wish to download the forms filled them and mailed to the address provided is also allowed. They have branches all over the federation. This will also help you to monitor the activities of agents if you decide to use one. All agents are registered, so always endeavour to get their registration code, this will aid you to check their activities online. They will however charge you agent fees
The cost of registration may not be as much as you think but the attendant benefits are more.
For example, the official fee for registration Business name is N 4000 plus perhaps other associated cost may not total N 10000.
